Gandhi Jayanti

Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated in India to mark the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. It is celebrated on 2nd October every year and people contribute their time memorizing his teachings and principles. It was officially announced as one of India's national holidays, and the UN General Assembly declared it as the International Day of Non-Violence. On 2nd October, 2022 we celebrated 153rd birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.

The occasion of Gandhi Jayanti is a grand festival in India. Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated with joy and happiness in all the states and union territories of India. The day will be remarked by special prayers and great respect across the country. The day is also celebrated in schools in schools and colleges. 


Various types of competitions like writing, art, plays are organised for students in school and colleges remembrance of Gandhi Ji. Students in many schools and colleges also watch documentaries and performances on Mahatma Gandhi’s life. 


Many governmental and non-governmental organisations also conduct campaigns on social activities like awareness campaigns to keep surroundings clean, plantations, etc.


 Raj Ghat is the cremation place of Gandhi Ji, which is decorated with garlands and flowers. It is feasted at Raj Ghat, New Delhi by offering flowers to Mahatma Gandhi’s statues. Special honor and respect is given to this great leader by placing bouquets and flowers at the Samadhi. The President and Prime Minister of India commemorate this day by paying a visit to Raj Ghat.


People sings his favorite devotional song “Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram”. Religious prayer is also held at the samadhi, in the morning. We celebrate this day to remember Mahatma Gandhi and his great deeds.


Some people avoid drinking alcohol or eating meat on the day. Gandhi Jayanti honors the great personality of Mahatma Gandhi. Everyone must try to live like him on this day. Gandhi Jayanti is certainly a very patriotic day in India.
